Community and Professional Development Courses
Wellpark has introduced community classes and professional development programmes for our community, enabling you to more effectively manage your own health and wellbeing and assist others in this process of self-discovery. Affordabley priced at just half of the regular fee, the classes and programmes include confirmation of attendance, and on successful completion of assessment may be used for cross crediting into existing programmes (subject to time period criteria).
Spaces on these community classes and professional development courses are limited and due to demand you may be waitlisted as priority is given to existing students enrolled on our programmes. Courses available from the Aromatherapy, Massage and Integrative Body Therapies, Naturopathy, Nutrition and Yoga faculties include both open entry and those with entry criteria.

These courses are open entry for applicants who have a general interest in the following subjects or wish to sample our faculty courses and practitioner tutors without committemnt to an academic programme.These courses are ideal if you are considering tertiary study for the first time or contemplating additional study after an extended break.
Naturopathy
Foundations of Naturopathic Practice NT101 (no assessment required)
The eighteen week course investigates the traditions of medicine and their contribution to modern medicine; allopathic, naturopathic and herbal. It looks at the current medical environment in which naturopaths and medical herbalists operate and considers the principles, practices and lifestyle required for successful naturopathic and herbal practice

Nutrition
Foundations of Nutrition Practice NU101 (no assessment required)
The all day eight week course examines the history of nutrition and the different approaches that have arisen as a result of its development are reviewed in addition to the role of digestive processes involving macronutrients, proteins, fats and carbohydrates and their utilisation by the body.

Professional Development Courses
Managing a Complementary Therapies Practice PD102
A seven week beginner’s guide to starting your own business. Legal and financial requirements, marketing, public speaking and business planning is covered in addition to health and safety, and the ethical aspects of maintaining a safe and successful practice. By the end of the course you will have developed confidence and a roadmap to embark on a new business or develop an existing practice together with a business plan suitable to present to a bank or funder.
This course is suited to natural therapies graduates and/or
practitioners wishing to either up-skill or attend a refresher program.

Neuromuscular BT203B
The student gains experience using neuromuscular techniques to help aid recovery from acute and chronic pain syndromes using specific massage therapy and flexibility stretching to help eliminate the causes of most neuromuscular pain patterns. This specific and scientific approach to muscular pain relief helps to bring about balance between the musculo-skeletal system and the nervous system and enhances the function of joints, muscles and biomechanics and releases endorphins. It can be part of a comprehensive program, complementing all other health care modalities

Acupressure BT203A
The practice of pressure point therapy arose from the traditional Chinese philosophy of healing that acknowledges the presence of life force (chi) and channels in which it flows (meridians). Through the use of finger pressure, the student is taught to affect the subtle flows in a way that brings balance and supports health. The basic principles of Chinese medicine that allow for the wise use of acupressure is woven into the course to ensure understanding and wisdom when treating clients

Lymphatic Drainage BT106A
The lymphatic system plays an important part in keeping fluid circulating and reducing build-up of metabolic wastes and toxins. This part of the course develops the knowledge and skills to effectively utilise this gentle bodywork therapy to create greater fluid flow and so better health.

Sports Massage BT106B
A specialised and fast-growing area of massage as both professional and amateur sportsmen and women recognise the value of massage within the competitive arena. The role of massage in sports performance is appraised and sports massage pre- and post-event treatments experienced. The course includes supervised field trips to an athletic event where the student completes a number of treatments both pre and post to provide first hand experience.

Fascial Release (part of BT205)
Fascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy that includes structural assessments and manual massage techniques for stretching the fascia and releasing ‘bonds’ between fascia, integument, muscles and bones to help eliminate pain, increase range of motion and balance the body. The course comprises the ‘nature’ of fascia, how it is organised, basic manouvers for fascial release, for regional, continuity systems, and specific dysfunction

Craniosacral 1 (part of BT205)
Cranio-Sacral Therapy is a gentle approach that works to alleviate a range of sensory, motor or neurological disorders. The course includes discussions on the cranial concept, the nature of cranio-sacral rhythmic impulse (CRI), the anatomy and physiology for the neural and skeletal structures as reflected by CRI, sacral holds, integrated holds for the spinal column and cranial holds.

Articular mobilisation techniques are introduced, to enable the student to assess and treat the client with more confidence and ability.

Forty-eight oils are covered in-depth. The course also includes the consultation process, appropriate guidelines, protocols, ethics and codes of practice, safety issues for pregnancy, babies and children.

Manufacturing (including distillation); Aromatherapy Weekend 1
A practical workshop with Kate Robertson and guests from Alembics NZ, demonstrating the production of hydrosols/plant distillates, essential oils, ethanol using traditional Alembic stills. Students will also be given the opportunity to manufacture aromatherapy preparations. This work shop will be held at Wellpark College , Grey Lynn.

Michelle Delacey presents a practical weekend in the garden. Please bring your own trowel
and gloves The content includes the background to cultivation and
practical growing of medicinal plants. You will also identify and
harvest medicinal plant. This work shop will be held at Kawai Purapura, 14 Mills Lane, Albany.

Homeobotanicals and drop dosing // Herbal Organeleptics Weekend 3
Join Wendy Illing to experience herbs via their sensory properties such as taste, colour and odour of the herbal preparation and by administering doses of single and blended herbs and observing their effects. This two day work shop will be held at Wellpark College , Grey Lynn.

Rongoa Weekend 4
A practical weekend in the bush with Donna Kerridge where you will have the opportunity to experience Rongoa Maori. You will be guided on identification of native plants, see where they grow and discuss their traditional uses. This work shop will be held at Kawai Purapura, 14 Mills Lane, Albany.
19/20 May 9:30 – 4:30pm
Manufacturing internal herbal preparations. Weekend 4
Together with Kate robertson, you will learn to make herbal syrups, tinctures and fluid extracts including (via percolation and maceration) therapeutic infusions and decoctions, capsules and tablets, herbal honeys and vinegars and glycertracts. This two day work shop will be held at Wellpark College, Grey Lynn.
