In this interview with graduate Shona Wilkinson she shares her experiences as a Wellpark Student and how her qualification has empowered her to make her dreams reality.
The Diploma in Nutrition.
I originally studied Food Science and have always had an interest in Nutrition. I became drawn to studying again when my daughter developed Autistic symptoms when she was a toddler and I was researching nutritional therapies for her. I quickly realised that many people were unaware of the health benefits of nutrition beyond weight loss.
I liked the College’s holistic approach to nutrition and the fact that it is an NZQA approved course. Studying through Wellpark also meant that I could register as a Clinical Nutritionist with the Clinical Nutrition Association (CNA) once I’d qualified. I really enjoyed spending time with the other students, many of whom were also making changes to their careers later in life, and I really appreciated the encouragement and support we were able to give each other. Some of us still meet up regularly, and it’s great to hear of their experiences in practice.
I worked part time while studying at Wellpark, and my family were extremely understanding of the demands studying made on my time. They were fantastic, and I couldn’t have done it without them.
I have my own nutrition clinic, Nutrition Workshop, and I love that I can set my own hours and spend quality time with my family.
I am healthier, as is my family, and I get a lot of personal satisfaction from helping others achieve their health goals, particularly when clients tell me I’ve changed their lives!
