A Crude Awakening drills deep into the uncomfortable realities of a world that is both addicted to fossil fuels and blissfully unaware of the looming "peak oil" crisis. Drawing on an international cast of energy experts and thinkers, A Crude Awakening debunks the conventional wisdom that oil production will continue to climb, and instead stares bleakly at a planet facing economic meltdown and conflict over its most valuable resource.


The interviewees provided the results of their analysis of current levels of proven reserves, the limited opportunities for significant oil discoveries, and the dire economic consequences of a global oil production peak.

The producers conclude the world is running out of cheap, easily accessible oil, and present some of the possible consequences of this increasing scarcity.
