Welcome To Wellpark College 2010

Posted: Monday 8th February 2010

On Orientation Day February 18, we welcome our new intake of students, beginning their journey of learning, health and wellbeing.

As a newly enrolled student, the journey is filled with excitement and trepidation as you adjust to your new environment and the expectations of student life. Stresses and challenges face us all, and there will be times however, when everything doesn't go quite as you expected. To remain positive & keep moving forward, here are helpful tips first suggested by the very useful lifeoptimizer blog.

1. Calm down - always an essential first step to regaining control in your life. Don’t panic. Just close your eyes and take a deep breath.

2. Feed your mind with positive thoughts - when unhappy or under stress, negative thoughts aren't your friend. Break through the cloud with positive thoughts. Spiritual texts, motivational books, or inspiring quotes are often a great source of positivity.

3. Remember good things - realign your mind towards the positive. Remind yourself of the many wonderful people and events in your life

4. Look at the big picture - put the event or situation into a realistic context. What would happen if the event did occur?

5. Believe that everything will be all right - your beliefs have a significant effect on your outcomes. Create a winning attitude. Re-examine your life to recognise the things that are going right & your mind will sort through your experiences looking to justify that positive belief.

6. Exercise - if you're feeling down, take the time to exercise. Exercise relieves the symptoms of depression and anxiety through the release of powerful chemical within the body.

7. Forgive - forgiveness is important, of yourself and others.Perhaps you had made mistakes in the past and you blamed yourself for it. You need to forgive yourself. Or perhaps someone mistreated you. You need to forgive them.

8. Take action - things won’t get better if you just sit and do nothing. Instead of thinking about how bad things are, think of what you can do to solve the problem and take action.

9. Say something positive - the words  we use have great power to inspire and motivate or crush and depress.
So whenever you’re about to say something negative, stop yourself and take a deep breath. Reframe what you’re going to say and make it positive.

10. Think about other people - remove the focus from yourself. Start thinking about other people and how you can help them. When you do that, your problems will no longer seem so challenging.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts
