The Wellpark Walkers Finish the Oxfam Trailwalker Event in Under 24Hours

Posted: Monday 12th April 2010

The Wellpark Walkers  - four women connected through friends and studies at Wellpark College, have now completed the 100km Oxfam Trailwalker event to raise funds to fight poverty and to provide humanitarian aid to global disaster areas.

In the greatest team challenge on the planet, the Wellpark Walkers turned in a fine performance over the weekend of April 10-12 in Taupo finishing in just under 24 hours at 23hr 48min after walking through the night!

Our Wellpark Walkers (Olwyn Gillespie, Lynda Mannering, Mary Belsey and Janelle Fletcher) would like to thank everyone for their support.

"At the end of the day it wasn't about how fast we got there, or what was waiting on the otherwise,  it was actually about the climb, the journey itself and how that journey touches us and those around us. Truly enlightening.

With only 6 weeks of training we were delighted with our performance and acknowledge the support of supplement and massages which contributed to our ability to keep our bodies moving and our spirits high.

A humbling and very moving experience as we walked with so many people pushing themselves through blisters, pain and tiredness to support those less fortunate.

With many thanks and deep appreciation for backing us on our walk WE DID IT!!! It would be wonderful to think that other Wellpark students could become involved in such a worthwhile cause in future years. An annual event perhaps?"

The Wellpark Walkers have raised more than $1500 towards Oxfam's great work and you can continue to help support them collecting much needed funds for Oxfam by going to this page & adding your personal donation. If you wish to make a donation please make it before the deadline of 23/06/2010.
