The Principal’s vision of “a residential care programme for natural medicine with a portion subsidised for those who would not normally have access to such care” was what first attracted me to Wellpark College. Having worked as a Nurse Specialist in oncology/palliative care for over 20 years in the National Health Service (UK), I have first-hand experience of the difficulties patients experience in fulfilling their treatment choices, particularly when it came to incorporating natural therapies alongside their medical interventions. Additionally, the impact of caring for these patients places a substantial emotional and physical burden upon their family, friends and loved ones. As such, my choice to undertake the Diplomas in Aromatherapy and Therapeutic Massage enables me to offer these patients and their carers a means of receiving natural therapies designed to alleviate emotional, physical and spiritual stress in complement to their existing treatment programmes.
The high-calibre of teaching staff at Wellpark College, combined with their passion for natural health, made for an enthusiastic learning experience. And all surrounded by beautifully fragranced herbal gardens ... a far-cry from the sterile medical institutions I had experienced during my years as a nursing student!
In July I graduated from Wellpark with a vast array of skills and knowledge, a bundle of good friends and a substantial web of connections to support my on-going ventures with the local Hospice team in the Bay-of-Islands and my own private practice.
