Kawai Purapura - Wellpark North Shore Wellbeing, Education, Therapy and Retreat Centre

Nestled in a sea of development in the heart of Albany is a jewel. Once a part of a wider, greater forest, it is now the sole remaining large tract of mature bush land within the surrounding area, creating a special haven. Nature abounds with mature trees, native birds and gently flowing streams that add to the tranquillity and sense of being within nature. This brings us back to a sense of being at peace with ourselves and at peace with the world around us.

The retreat centre offers a place to learn within an environment that fosters the inner journey and inspires the outer expression of the inward changes that retreat participants experience.

Retreat Facilities

Workshop Spaces

  • The Centre has a variety of workshop spaces.
  • There is a large carpeted workshop space in the Prema Centre (the heart of the complex) that offers an open fireplace, sunny, bush-clad outlook, which opens out onto an extensive deck.
  • The meeting room, which can be utilised for smaller groups, is located just off the main workshop space.
  • The Yoga/Dance studio is set amongst the trees, away from the Prema Centre, with a large floor space that is suited to yoga, tai chi, movement and dance as well as a variety of workshops, including body therapies.

The availability of several large spaces offers the opportunity for more than one retreat to be held at the same time.

The Dining Room and Meals

Situated in the Prema Centre, next to the large workshop room is our commercial kitchen.  The dining room can seat 150, and enjoys a beautiful outlook over the gardens, trees and the bush.  A delicious vegetarian menu is available along with self catering options.

The Lounge

Adjacent to the dining room there is an area for retreat participants to relax and enjoy peaceful contemplation or share time with others. Tea and coffee facilities are provided.

The Swimming Pool

The 25 metre, non-chlorinated pool, is a place to unwind, exercise and just relax whilst taking in the vista of forested hills all around. The pool is warmed by a solar system.

The Hot Tub

Next to the swimming pool a wonderful cedar hot tub is available.  Lie back and float amongst the stars.

The Glade

A large sacred space up the path from the main centre, the Glade offers a special outdoor location for special activities, such as circle dancing, ceremonies and celebrations.

Bush Walks

The property is criss-crossed by walks, which connect to the adjacent council reserve land. Many of the walks take in the beautiful streams  and mature native trees, including some magnificent Kahikatea.  Take a walk at dusk and enjoy an extraordinary display by the glow worms.

Internet

Broadband facilities are available to retreat participants who have laptops and a desktop computer is available for $5.00 per session.

Retreat Recommendations

This was our 28th Camp held in New Zealand and most successful to date. Your chef and assistants did a marvelous job. The food was lovely...our invited guest teacher said it was one of the best retreats he had been to in his considerable years of tutoring and training around the world...we look forward to booking our next retreat with Kawai Purapura.
