Do Soft Drinks Dissolve More Than Just Your Teeth?

Sunday 1st January 2012

PepsiCo International has claimed their extreme sports focussed soft drink Mountain Dew has the corrosive capability to dissolve a mouse into a "jelly-like substance" within 30 days.

Veterinary surgeon Lawrence McGill made the extraordinary claim on behalf of Pepsi, after conducting a detailed post mortem examination on a rodent at the centre of personal injury lawsuit with Ronald Ball, 52, from Wisconsin, U.S.A.

Ball, alleged in a US$50,000 (NZ $63,600) claim, that he "began to vomit" after consuming a can of Mountain Dew. He found a dead mouse inside the can of bright green drink.

Noting the high acidity of the drink, veterinary surgeon Lawrence McGill has in defence of Pepsi argued that after 30 days (the time Ball claims the creature was in the can); the mouse could not have remained solid and instead dissolved.

The court date is scheduled for January 11.
